Biography. 

Ashley Y. Kong is a costume and makeup designer who is currently based out of the New Jersey, New York area. 

She recently designed: Juliet and her Romeo (costumes, Shakespeare in Our Parks,South Orange); Lear (costumes, Rutgers Theater Company); The Tales of Hoffmann (makeup, Opera at Rutgers); Albert Herring (makeup, Opera at Rutgers); Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi (makeup, Opera at Rutgers); Blood Wedding (makeup, Rutgers Theater Company); Defender ØM-53 (makeup, hair, costumes; Moonlight Stories); Just Us (makeup and costumes, Montclair Student Film); Shark River (makeup and hair, RuckSack Films); Here We Are and Hello Out There (costumes, hair, makeup; Rutgers Theater Company). 

Assistant design credits include: Moi Meduse, A Movement Piece (costumes, Rutgers Theater Company).

Ashley spent time in London studying Costume Design at Shakespeare’s Globe under scenographer Michael Pavelka. She also spent that time studying under the tutelage of Jenny Tiramani at the School of Historical Dress.

She received her BFA in Costume Design from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. 

 

Her passions outside of the industry include her cosplay work, where she runs her personal brand ToxieKat LLC.

She was also one of three winners for the Costume Industry Coalition’s Design Challenge 2020, CosBond's Creator Contest 2020, AnimeNEXT’s Costume Competition Judge Choice winner in 2018, and Albolene’s Halloween Makeup Challenge winner in 2017.
